Paula Poundstone
Appearing on stage with a stool, a
microphone and a can of Diet Pepsi, Paula Poundstone is so quick
and unassuming that audience members at her live shows often
leave complaining that their cheeks hurt from laughter and
debating whether the random people she talked to were “plants”.
Poundstone’s comedy is one part self-deprecating style, one part
offbeat take on the mundane with a dash of razor-sharp wit
thrown in for good measure. The result is one hilarious
good time! The Boston Globe says, “Paula Poundstone's
voice has so much personality - subtle fluctuations in tone and
rhythm - that no matter what she says, it sounds funny.”

nikki yanofsky
A sixteen-year-old prodigy; singer/pianist
Nikki Yanofsky (Montreal, 1994) already performed at the
Montreal Jazz Festival in 2006 and made such an impression that
she was asked by Verve to perform a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald -
the youngest singer ever to do so. Later, she recorded Stompin'
at the Savoy with Herbie Hancock and in 2008 her first live
CD/DVD was released: Ella… of Thee I Swing. Yanofsky received a
number of nominations for this feat. Last January she had the
honor of performing during the opening ceremony of the Winter
Olympics: an incredible acknowledgment for such a young talented
woman. Her first studio album is due to be released soon. It
will simply be called Nikki and will be produced by the famous
Phil Ramone. The album will not only contain jazz standards, but
also material that Yanofsky has written herself. No doubt we
will hear many new songs during her performance, accompanied by
her own quartet.

when powerful forces come together, some form of energy is
created – usually in large amounts. In music, the laws of
interaction are no different. When keyboardist Bob James,

East come together as Fourplay, the result is extraordinary
jazz. For nearly two decades, this contemporary jazz
quartet has enjoyed both artistic and commercial success by
grafting elements of R&B, pop and a variety of other sounds to
their unwavering jazz foundations. In the course of ten
recordings – five of which have climbed to the top of
Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Album charts – the supergroup has
continued to explore the limitless dimensions and permutations
of jazz while at the same time appealing to a broad mainstream

Sinbad
A popular comedian, actor and commercial
spokesperson, Sinbad entertains audiences with his unique and
hilarious humor. Sinbad brings his hilarious, real life,
story-telling style of comedy to his show.
Sinbad never tells jokes--"I don't know
any," he admits--but rather stalks the stage, telling real-life
stories. He doesn't deliver payoff lines; he slam-dunks them.
His comedy is large, physical, and impetuous. He pokes holes in
our lifestyles, and his stories mirror our foibles. His is the
explosive energy of the neighborhood; his phrasing is manic,
musical and right on time. He doesn't write his material; he
relives it as he remembers it.
Sinbad also finds time for humanitarian and
community services, especially those that affect children,
education and AIDS research. He is an active board member for
Inner City Games and has supported the opening of Computer
Clubhouses nationwide. As a spokesperson for the National Action
Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME), Sinbad encourages
minorities to pursue studies in science, math and engineering.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Though the group had already been performing
together in their native South Africa for some twenty years, it
took Paul Simon’s GRAMMY winning 1986 album Graceland
to bring international attention to Ladysmith Black Mambazo. As
Simon’s backing group on that monumental record, they put the
traditional vocal music of the Zulu people in an international
spotlight. Now, the gorgeous harmonies of this vocal ensemble
are required listening for world music fans. Ladysmith Black
Mambazo represents the traditional culture of South Africa and is regarded as the
country's cultural emissary at home and around the world. As an
a cappella singing group, they have won one GRAMMY Award and
been nominated an additional eleven times. They have performed
with Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, Ben Harper, Mavis Staples and
George Clinton.

JERRY JEFF WALKER
Outlaw country pioneer Jerry Jeff Walker
is most noted for his hit, "Mr. Bojangles," but it was his
smooth voice and vibrant country songs that earned him a large
and loyal following. Artists like Neil
Diamond, Nina Simone, Bob Dylan and Sammy Davis Jr. have all
covered his songs. Walker became, along with
Willie Nelson and Asleep At The Wheel, one of the arbiters of
the internationally famous “Austin Music Scene.” Since then,
he has celebrated the music of peers such as Guy Clark and
Townes Van Zandt, and served as a fountainhead and inspiration
to younger musicians such as Robert Earl Keen, Pat Green, Jack
Ingram and Garth
Brooks. But even
with all that, Walker still sees the world with a
troubadour's eyes. His songs are the way he makes the world
make sense, how he passes on stories of the people he meets,
the way he feels on a given morning. He has come full circle,
back to his singer-songwriter roots.

ARturo sandoval
Arturo Sandoval is fluent in at least
four musical languages. He can burn through an Afro-Cuban
groove, tear up a bebop tune, soar over a Mozart concerto and
sooth you with a luscious ballad; all with equal power and
grace. As one of the world’s most acknowledged guardians
of jazz trumpet, he has earned twelve GRAMMY nominations, won
three GRAMMYs, six Billboard Awards and was named “The Most
Musical Man Alive” by the National Academy of Recording Arts &
Sciences. Add to that the fact that he was voted Cuba’s
Best Instrumentalist for eight years, Sandoval is one of the
most decorated and prolific musicians of our time.

Dubbed Ireland’s “Inadvertent prophets of
the world-music boom” by Rolling Stone Magazine, The
Chieftains are recognized for bringing the rollicking, ebullient
energy of traditional Irish music to the world’s attention.
They have been honored in their own country by being officially
named Ireland’s Musical Ambassadors and have broken many musical
boundaries by performing with some of the biggest musicians in
the world including Sting, Van Morrison, Roger Daltrey and Mick
Jagger. After all these years of making some of the most
beautiful music in the world, The Chieftains are never afraid to
shock purists and push boundaries. They make music that
has accumulated over centuries with a style that is as
exhilarating as it is definitive so that it remains as fresh and
relevant as when it first began.

RAY PRICE Featuring Dale
Watson
Country
Music Hall of
Famer, Ray Price returns to One World Theatre! As a
country music pioneer, he has scored 108 chart topping hits,
including “Release Me,” “Crazy Arms” and “Heartache by the
Numbers.” A remarkable talent, Price is credited with
single handedly keeping the hard country torch aflame
and, in so doing, virtually created an industry of musicians who
either wrote or played for him – including Willie Nelson, Roger
Miller and Merle Haggard. Price is a country music legend
with a voice that could bring down roadhouse walls. Like
those came before him - Hank, Cash, Waylon, Willie - Dale
Watson joins the legends who respected where true country
music came from and helped build it into something to be
revered. As a tattooed, staunch adherent of old-style
honky tonk, the man and his music is a favorite
of critics and country fans alike. Watson is one of
country music's last authentic voices.

CARLOS NAKAI
R. Carlos Nakai is undoubtedly the most
important Native American flute player in the world. His
powerful solo work helped define the genre. While
well-grounded in the traditional uses of his instrument, he has
explored new musical settings including new age, world-beat jazz
and classical. Nakai has earned two gold records and has
received eight GRAMMY nominations. His career has been shaped by
a desire to communicate a sense of Native American culture and
society that transcends the common stereotypes. “The
haunting sound of the Native American flute is gaining more
widespread appeal in recent years, and R. Carlos Nakai is the reason for it.” New York Times

RAUL MIDON
Raul Midon is an original singer-songwriter
whose particular brand of laid-back soul and pop reflects
musical influences ranging from jazz to Latin folklore. Midon
unleashes a silky, soulful tenor and dazzling percussive guitar
style - a syncopated, flamenco and jazz infused approach in
which bass, harmony, and melodic lines emanate from the
fretboard in one slap-happy storm. He also delivers an
improvisational mouth horn technique in which he creates a bebop
“trumpet” solo entirely with his lips. The alchemy of
Midon’s distinct voice, strumming, beats and vocal mouth trumpet
sounds to create a stunning one-man performance.
His unique style shows influence of virtually
every musical genre which came before him, including jazz,
blues, R&B, and folk. Midon has performed with such
artists as Shakira, Jose Feliciano, Stevie Wonder and Julio
Iglesias.

jane monheit
In just 8 years and 7 recordings,
Jane Monheit has established herself as one of the jazz world’s
foremost vocalists, topping Billboard charts and earning a

Ella Fitzgerald and Diana Krall, but Monheit forges her own path
to stardom with her delicate phrasing and uncanny ability to
capture the meaning and essence of a song. Her January
2009 release, The Lovers, The Dreamers and Me is already
being hailed as one of the best new recordings of the year.
