susana baca

Susana Baca belongs to a new generation of Peruvian singers, delving into the shadows of the past to recover shimmering melodies and seductive rhythms. Baca’s seemingly effortless interpretative skills belie years of work assembling the songs, the stories and the steps of music and dances once consigned to history. The Stanley Clarke Band Featuring Hiromi

Recording artist, performer, composer, conductor, arranger, producer and film score composer, Stanley Clarke is one of the most celebrated bass players in the world. Known for his ferocious dexterity and consummate musicality, Clarke is a true musical pioneer, whether solo or with Return to Forever. Unquestionably, he has attained 'living legend' status during his 36-year career as a bass virtuoso.  Hiromi has been heralded as one of the brightest new lights on the piano jazz landscape since the release of Another Mind, her 2003 debut recording. Six years and four critically acclaimed albums later, she has not only lived up to the initial praise for her early efforts but surpassed it entirely - thanks in large part to live performances that spotlight her boundless talent, energy and artistic vision.  After collaborating on the award-winning and critically acclaimed, acoustic trio effort, Jazz in the Garden, Stanley asked Hiromi to join The Stanley Clarke Band. For more than a decade, singer/songwriter David Broza has been steadily gaining reputation throughout the world.  A superstar in his homeland of Israel, he is a modern troubadour of urban folk rock.  With 19 albums to his name, many of which became gold, platinum, and multi-platinum, his popularity achieved new heights with the enormous success of his quadruple platinum 2007 album The Woman By My Side.  Critics, moved by Broza’s flamenco-tinged, folk-rock melodies, his keen talent for breathing musical life into sensual snippets of poetry, and his dark and sultry good looks, have been quick to label him, “the Stevie Ray Vaughn of folk rock.”

 Ladysmith Black Mambazo

Though the group had already been performing together in their native South Africa for some twenty years, it took Paul Simon’s GRAMMY winning 1986 album Graceland to bring international attention to Ladysmith Black Mambazo.  As Simon’s backing group on that monumental record, they put the traditional vocal music of the Zulu people in an international spotlight. Now, the gorgeous harmonies of this vocal ensemble are required listening for world music fans.  Ladysmith Black Mambazo represents the traditional culture of South Africa and is regarded as the country's cultural emissary at home and around the world.  As an a cappella singing group, they have won one GRAMMY Award and been nominated an additional eleven times.  They have performed with Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, Ben Harper, Mavis Staples and George Clinton.

JERRY JEFF WALKER

Outlaw country pioneer Jerry Jeff Walker is most noted for his hit, "Mr. Bojangles," but it was his smooth voice and vibrant country songs that earned him a large and loyal following.  Artists like Neil Diamond, Nina Simone, Bob Dylan and Sammy Davis Jr. have all covered his songs.  Walker became, along with Willie Nelson and Asleep At The Wheel, one of the arbiters of the internationally famous “Austin Music Scene.” Since then, he has celebrated the music of peers such as Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt, and served as a fountainhead and inspiration to younger musicians such as Robert Earl Keen, Pat Green, Jack Ingram and Garth Brooks.  But even with all that, Walker still sees the world with a troubadour's eyes. His songs are the way he makes the world make sense, how he passes on stories of the people he meets, the way he feels on a given morning. He has come full circle, back to his singer-songwriter roots.

BJ Thomas owns one of the most distinctive voices in American music that helped him earn five GRAMMYs, 15 platinum and gold records and over 25 Top 40 Hits, including “Hooked on a Feeling and the million selling “(Hey Won’t You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song.”  He is most remembered for singing the Academy Award winning movie theme, “Raindrops Keep Falling’ on My Head.”  Thomas straddled the line between pop/rock and country, achieving record breaking success in both genres, steadily building a growing legion of fans in a career that spans more than 3 decades.

Country Music Hall of Famer, Ray Price returns to One World Theatre!  As a country music pioneer, he has scored 108 chart topping hits, including “Release Me,” “Crazy Arms” and “Heartache by the Numbers.”  A remarkable talent, Price is credited with single handedly keeping the hard country torch aflame and, in so doing, virtually created an industry of musicians who either wrote or played for him – including Willie Nelson, Roger Miller and Merle Haggard.  Price is a country music legend with a voice that could bring down roadhouse walls.  Like those came before him - Hank, Cash, Waylon, Willie - Dale Watson joins the legends who respected where true country music came from and helped build it into something to be revered.  As a tattooed, staunch adherent of old-style honky tonk, the man and his music is a favorite of critics and country fans alike.  Watson is one of country music's last authentic voices.

R. Carlos Nakai is undoubtedly the most important Native American flute player in the world. His powerful solo work helped define the genre.  While well-grounded in the traditional uses of his instrument, he has explored new musical settings including new age, world-beat jazz and classical.  Nakai has earned two gold records and has received eight GRAMMY nominations.
